ELEUTHERA RESORTS

< Click on resort name for photos, information and rates

Eleuthera ia a beautiful island, one hundred and ten miles long and 2 miles wide with rolling hills and magnificent beaches. More than 300 years ago, English Adventurers in search of religious freedom founded the Western World’s first true seat of democracy and named it Eleuthera, the Greek word for freedom.
This hilly verdant isle became the “birthplace of The Bahamas”.

Miles of glistening pink and white sand beaches, serene colonial villages and rolling acres of pineapple plantations make Eleuthera Island an island of the most casual sophistication.

The island, dotted with an array of quaint settlements it’s architecture and way of life influenced by Loyalist settlers in the late 1700s, is divided into North Eleuthera and South Eleuthera and its economic base varies as do the townships.
Eleuthera is about 60 miles from Nassau and about 200 miles from Florida.

With its two companions, Harbour Island and the community of Spanish Wells, Eleuthera Island has long been a favoured destination among travellers seeking a bit of quiet charm.

What To Do:

Beaches- over 35 miles of beaches offer seclusion or activity. The emerald and turquoise waters of The Bahamas archipelago naturally form breath taking beaches with countless meandering miles of sand, white, or pink.. One called Surfer’s Beach is reportedly equal to Hawaii’s best.

The most famous is the Pink Sand Beach of Harbour Island renowned for its pale pink sand beaches over three miles long and 50 to 100 feet wide. This is a spectacular and quiet beach fronted by several popular, upscale resorts and within walking distance to town.

Fishing - All fishing sites in Eleuthera/Harbour Island are natural ecosystems that not only offer great bonefishing opportunities but are also known for their other attributes. Bottom fishing, an easy break from the demands of bonefishing, is ideal in the mangrove thickets and unique small bays throughout the area.

Many persons prefer to bonefish during the cool months, but bonefishing can be enjoyed year round. Just about any day is a good bonefishing day, as long as the average weather conditions (wind, water, temperature, etc. ) are favourable. Your success, of course, will depend on your skill and patience in out-maneuvering the wily bonefish!

Diving - Coral reefs, Blue Holes, Walls, Caves, Shipwrecks, Sharks,. Dolphins, Stingrays. The variety of islands in The Bahamas present a variety of diving experiences. Beginners and experts are welcome. Lessons and guides can be found throughout the islands.

Other Activities -Chill Out, Dine Around for local cracked conch and world class cuisine, Shopping Excursions, Explore Historical Sites & Landmarks (including the Glass Window Bridge- the only place in the world where a 30 ft. strip of rock divides the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea & Haynes Library in Governor’s Harbour - a 100 yr. old, newly restored library), Snorkel, Scuba Dive, Sail.
